Extra Curricular Activities |

All students at BIS, follow a well balanced life style of work and play. They have proved their skills on stage- in modern dance, acting and ballet, in the courts with their skills in squash, in the pool with their talent in swimming and in the art gallery with their skills with the brush, paint and crayons.
The students have been given the opportunity to take part in many sports and cultural activities, that contributes towards building an all round personality. |

Ballet
Classical ballet and modern dance lessons are held in school on Tuesdays, at 1.30p.m. Students are trained by Ms. Menik Neydorff, a well qualified and experienced choreographer. A ballet performance is held annually at the year end variety entertainment.

Swimming
Swimming lessons are held weekly at the Fingara Country club, and the students are coached by a well qualified coach with many years of experience.The students took part in the Fingara Swimming championships which was held recently.

Squash
Students are coached by a well qualified coach, Mr.J.P.Jayawardana who is a national coach of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation. Practices are held on Mondays at the Fingara country club squash courts. |

| The students are given the opportunity to participate in tournaments through out the year. At the Austasia Open squash tournament held in August 2008, the squash players of BIS secured the following places in the respective categories. |

The school band
The school band is trained once a week by Ms. Yamali Moonesinghe.The band performs at various school functions such as the annual art exhibition, variety entertainment and the sports meet and is trained for the special occasions by the band instructor Mr. Navagaththegama.
Quiz club
The quiz club is held on Wednesdays from 1.30 – 2.30p.m. Students are educated on current affairs and General Knowledge through interactive quizzes and competitions. |

Reading Club
The reading club is held on Mondays for grades 1 – 3. A cassette of the British council educational kits is played during each session which helps to develop their pronunciation, reading and listening skills. |

Field trips
Annual field trips are organized by school for the Montessori, primary and secondary sections. Students have so far visited places of educational importance such as the zoo, the coca cola beverages, canaries manufacturers, the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and the museum, as well as places of relaxation and interest such as the Blue waters Wadduwa, Hotel P.T. gardens, Biyagama, Asiana holiday resorts and Mc Donalds, Rajagiriya.

General assembly
General assembly is held at the beginning of the week. Assembly is held to create awareness regarding the weekly events of the school and to develop the students’ moral values through advice and moral stories. |
Annual Art Exhibition
An exhibition of art is held annually at the Lionel Wendt art gallery. Art in it self is a form of communication. Hence young artists get the chance to portray their skills in art and crafts and to express their emotions and feelings to the world outside.

The 10th Annual exhibition of Art was held at the Lionel Wendt art gallery on the 10th August 2009. The exhibition comprised of exhibits of students ranging from 2-15 years. The Chief Guest was Mr. Sandika De Saram, Chief Executive Officer of the IEMS examinations Pvt.Ltd.

National and religious festivals
Religious and national festivals are the keys to a society of rich culture. BIS makes it a point to celebrate events such as the independence day, New year festival, Wesak celebrations, Mother’s day, Father’s day , Children’s day, Teacher’s day, and Christmas celebrations. |

Year end variety entertainment
A variety entertainment is held at the end of the year at the Lionel Wendt theatre. The variety entertainment creates the opportunity for students to take part in many items which brings their hidden talents and potential to the lime light.
Ballets, songs, dances, band performances and dramas performed by the students at BIS, entertain the mass audiences.
Events of this nature which are organized for the Montessori, primary and secondary sections of the school helps in building the child’s self confidence and a well balanced personality.
Physical Education
P.E is conducted by a qualified P.E instructor, Mr. Maurice Heyzer. Practices are held on Fridays within the school premises, and at the Cooray Park grounds.

Inter- House Athletic Sports meet
The First Inter-House Athletic Sports meet of BIS was held on the 11th of August 2010, at the Shalika Grounds, Colombo. The Chief guest of the ocassion was Mr. Neville Abeyrathne,Attorney-At-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.The Sports meet consisted of track events, relays and the March Past in which all students of the four houses: Austen, Bronte, Doyle and Elliot took part in. Doyle house emerged over- all Champions at the Sports meet.
